Vittorio Palumbo, 92,

Vittorio Palumbo, 92,

Vittorio Palumbo, 92, of Milford, passed away March 30, 2026 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He was the loving husband of 65 years to Rosalba E. (Sciuba) Palumbo. He was born in Campodi Giove, Italy, son of the late Roberto and Angela (Pensa) Palumbo and landed at Ellis Island on May 5, 1955 and moved to Milford.

In 1939, Vittorio’s family sought to escape poverty in Italy by responding to their fascist leaders’ call to colonize Arab lands in Libya. Just months later, six-year-old Vittorio was summoned back to Italy for forced enrollment in Mussolini’s military boarding schools of indoctrination. Separated from his parents for eight years, Vittorio was subjected to the cruelties and destruction of war. He lived in the wilderness to avoid the German occupation of his hometown and endured years in a refugee camp. When Vittorio was finally reunited with his parents in Lybia, he was stunned to realize they all have become strangers. Eventually, Vittorio immigrated to America. Here, his lifelong aspirations of becoming a tailor were fulfilled. Vittorio became a master tailor for the U.S. Army Natick Soldiers System Center where he designed the modern utility uniform for the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Natick Labs in 2018.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Steven Palumbo of Honolulu, HI, one sister Ada DelSignore of Milan Italy, two granddaughters, Olivia Hurley and Caroline Hurley. He was predeceased by his daughter Cristina Hurley, three brothers, Genaro Palumbo, Giovanni Palumbo, Guerrino Palumbo and one sister, Giovanna Delmastro.

The funeral will be held Tuesday April 7, 2026 at 9 A.M. from the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church 5 East Main St. Milford. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 7 P.M.

In lieu of flowers the fmaily has asked for you to make Donations in Vittorio's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital .

Though miles separated us in Australia, we built a beautiful friendship through Facebook—only to discover we were family. Your depth of knowledge about our heritage was remarkable and something I truly admired. Even without meeting, your presence was felt, your warmth undeniable. Rest peacefully, Vittorio. 🙏 ❤️
