Inocencia “Cindy” Morais Cerqueira, 72, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Cindy was the beloved wife of Antonio Cerqueira and the devoted daughter of the late Elias Gonçalves Morais and Maria Dias Do Canto Morais. She was born in Viveiro, Portugal, where she cherished her childhood in a large, close-knit family and community.
In 1967, she came to the United States and made her home in Milford, Massachusetts, where she built a life filled with love, friendship, and deep family connections. She was the loving mother of Melissa Barreto and her husband Robert Barreto, Dorothy Ferranti and her partner Dan Petrosinelli, and Tony Cerqueira and his partner Katerina Kubec. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Robert Jr. and Robin Barreto, and Mia and Kaiya Ferranti. She is also survived by her siblings, Maria “Quinhas” Pinto, Elisa Pereira, Jose Morais, Joao Morais, Manuel Morais, Davide Morais, and Isabel Coletti, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Amy Marie Cerqueira; her parents, Elias Gonçalves Morais and Maria Dias Do Canto Morais; and her brothers, Antonio Morais of Milford and Domingos Morais of Brazil.
Cindy’s caring and nurturing spirit led her to a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she cared for her patients as if they were her own family. Her kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was vibrant and full of life, known for her joyful personality and love of celebration. Cindy treasured festive occasions surrounded by friends and family, where her laughter was contagious and her humor unforgettable. She was quick-witted, smart, and wonderfully sarcastic—often the one telling the jokes and bringing smiles to those around her. Cindy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, strength, and the love she gave so freely to everyone in her life.
The calling hour will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. at the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford MA. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 A.M. at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Winter St. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
